2026 Fantasy Outlook
Melanson made his presence felt when he got the chance in the NHL. He picked up two goals, three assists, 33 shots on net, 32 PIM and 189 hits in just 36 outings for the Kraken last year. Melanson should be in contention for bottom-six minutes from the start of 2026-27, though it wouldn't be surprising if he sat in the press box on occasion. He offers elite physicality, and his offense should improve. He logged 19 points in 28 regular-season games with AHL Coachella Valley last year. Melanson would be a boost in banger leagues if he becomes an everyday player. If that happens, expect about 10-15 points, 70-plus PIM and 300-plus hits from the 23-year-old. Read Past Outlooks
Signed a three-year, $4.35 million contract with the Kraken in September of 2026.
Out indefinitely
Melanson's upper-body injury was diagnosed Saturday as an anterior mediastinum hematoma with vascular pseudo aneurysm. He will continue to be evaluated and is out indefinitely.
ANALYSIS
The Kraken said that there would be a "gradual progression to return to hockey," so Melanson shouldn't be expected to play for a while. The 23-year-old suffered the injury in Seattle's Season Opener against Calgary on Oct. 1. Melanson had two goals and five points in 36 regular-season outings with the Kraken in 2025-26.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Melanson's steady offense in junior hasn't translated to the professional ranks, which has limited his potential. He's earned just 31 points in 104 regular-season games with AHL Coachella Valley, as well as nine points in 24 playoff outings for the minor-league club. At the NHL level, Melanson has made just one appearance, logging four hits in 9:53 of ice time in his debut for the Kraken last March. The 2021 fifth-rounder brings plenty of physicality in his play, but he doesn't look like he'll ever develop into a significant scoring threat, so his ceiling would likely be on the third line.
