DBrisbane Lions
May 18, 2021
Gardiner is expected to miss 12 to 14 weeks after undergoing surgery on a dislocated shoulder, high performance manager Damien Austin announced Tuesday. "It will take between 12 and 14 weeks to recover so we hope (Gardiner) may be able to pay some football at the end of the season.''
Gardiner is more important to the Lions on the field than in fantasy with a season-high of 74 fantasy points in a single game. His absence will make Daniel Rich even more important as the top fantasy defender from this team.

Gardiner suffered a shoulder injury during Saturday's Round 9 win over Gold Coast, according to the AFL.com match report.
Gardiner has played just five times this season due to other injury issues and he'll hope that this new problem doesn't knock him out for long. His season-high of 74 fantasy points in a game isn't enough to make him a substantially important loss.

Gardiner underwent a procedure to clean up his knee during the offseason and won't be available for Round 1 versus West Coast, the AFL's official site reports.
Gardiner's knee injury dates back to late in the 2020 season but the cleanup procedure occurred in the offseason to help get it back on track. While he will miss the opener, Gardiner is expected to be back soon after and could be set for a VFL practice match.
