Espinosa took over for Tommy Grady (coach's decision) to start the third quarter and completed five of eight passes for 52 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions in the Empire's 62-21 playoff win over the Brigade on Saturday. He also lost a yard on his sole rush.
ANALYSIS
The Empire held a 49-14 lead by the time Espinosa attempted his first pass with 6:15 remaining in the third quarter, so there was absolutely no urgency at that point in time. The rookie backup still was able to get some solid work in, and he notched his first career postseason touchdown on a three-yard scoring toss to Demetres Stephens with 10:24 remaining in the contest. Espinosa has gotten some valuable experience in recent weeks in mop-up duty, but he shouldn't see the field in next week's ArenaBowl unless there's an injury to Grady or there is a blowout scenario.
