PWashington Nationals  AAA
March 30, 2014
Poveda was traded to the Nationals on Sunday in exchange for cash considerations, Doug Padilla of ESPN Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
Poveda was particularly effective in limited opportunities with the White Sox this spring, so he was sent back to minor league camp in the early round of cuts. The Nationals apparently saw something they liked in the 26-year-old, but he'll likely serve as organizational depth at the minor league level to begin the season.

2008
Poveda took a step back in 2009, fanning just 73 against 48 walks in 130.1 innings at Double-A Frisco after fanning 97 in 90 innings at High-A Bakersfield in 2008. It speaks to Texas' depth that a 22-year-old that held his own at Double-A isn’t considered the best prospect in the system, but such is life when you're teammates with Martin Perez. The dip in K/9IP and related drop in K/BB is troubling, but he's got plenty of time to figure it out.
Poveda missed nearly two months due to arm fatigue, and struggled a bit with his control when healthy. You can't ignore the 97 Ks in 90.2 innings, though the 40 walks and 10 homers allowed shows there are plenty of issues to iron out first. He'll need a decent showing at Double-A Frisco before we can get too excited.
Poveda had a nice year, spent mainly repeating a season at Low-A Clinton (125.2 innings, 94 hits, 33 walks, 120 K) before a brief stint at High-A Bakerfield (28 innings, 27 hits, 13 walks, 33 K). The repeat season isn't a big concern as he just turned 20, and a strong season in 2008 should result in his name appearing on some prospect lists.
