Giovanni Soto

Soto was traded to the Cubs in April of 2016 and spent almost the entire season stationed in Triple-A Iowa. After multiple designations for assignment, he was most recently claimed off waivers by the White Sox. The 25-year-old does not have a lot of major league experience, but teams continue to be intrigued by his ability to generate swing-and-misses in the minors. Soto posted a solid 10.10 K/9 in 49 innings of work in 2016. On the other hand, his command was a cause for concern. Soto's control issues resulted in him issuing 5.69 BB/9, which is much higher than teams would like and helps explain his disappointing 5.14 ERA in 2016. As long as Soto continues to miss bats, he will continue to have opportunities to prove himself in the minors, but in order to stick in the major leagues, he will need to find a way to locate his pitches better in the strike zone.
