The 24-year-old Ortiz was claimed off waivers by the Cubs in October after he spent the last several years in the Rangers' system. He was outstanding his first few years in the minors, including an outstanding 59:5 K:BB ratio in 42 innings as a 19-year-old with Low-A Hickory in 2010, but a broken foot kept him sidelined for most of 2014, and his growth has been stunted. He figures to be a LOOGY at best if he carves out a spot with the Cubs, but he's far more likely to spend 2015 in the minors.

Ortiz won a spot in the Texas bullpen to start the season on the heels of a strong spring training, and ended up making 32 appearances with Texas around a few stints in the minors. He held lefties to a .684 OPS, though Texas already has a set of effective left-handed relievers in Robbie Ross and Neal Cotts. His .475 slugging against righties figures to limit his effectiveness in an expanded role, and it's possible that he'll return to Triple-A before getting a look when injuries create the need for his arm with the big club.
