Anthony Volpe News: Given vote of confidence by Boone
Yankees manager Aaron Boone reiterated Monday that Volpe is "our shortstop" and will play "regularly," despite being out of the lineup for a second straight day as New York opens its series against the Nationals, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.
Volpe will receive a second straight day off Monday in what's viewed as a "reset," per Boone, rather than any indication that Volpe's standing as the team's starting shortstop might be in danger. The 24-year-old is slashing only .169/.213/.338 in August and has taken a step back defensively this season, but the Yankees aren't ready to bench Volpe on a long-term basis. Jose Caballero will get another start in Volpe's stead Monday.
