Tyler Stephenson Injury: Gets fitted for thumb guard
The Reds are having Stephenson fitted for a thumb guard that will be inserted inside his catcher's mitt, MLB.com reports.
Stephenson sustained a fractured left thumb earlier this month and was placed on the injured list Thursday. The fact that he's being fitted for a guard indicates that the Reds feel he'll be capable of playing again this season; however, Cincinnati will proceed with caution and let the fracture heal before speculating on a timeframe for Stephenson's return. Jose Trevino will serve as the Reds' primary backstop for whatever length of time Stephenson is on the shelf.
