Xander Bogaerts Injury: Recovery ahead of schedule

Bogaerts took on-field batting practice Friday and believes he's ahead of schedule in his recovery from a non-displaced fracture in his left foot, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

When Bogaerts was placed on the 10-day injured list Aug. 29, he looked to be at risk of missing the rest of the season, but he's made enough progress up to this point in his recovery that a return for the final week of the campaign could be realistic. Jake Cronenworth and Jose Iglesias (hand) have been handling most of the starts at shortstop since Bogaerts landed on the shelf.
