Yordan Alvarez Injury: Moved to injured list
The Astros placed Alvarez (ankle) on the 10-day injured list Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Alvarez suffered what manager Joe Espada termed as a significant left ankle sprain in Monday's win over the Rangers, and though the skipper initially suggested that the slugger wouldn't be placed on the IL, the team ultimately made a transaction to create more roster flexibility. The move opens up a spot on the active roster for Isaac Paredes (hamstring), who was reinstated from the 60-day IL and should settle in as Houston's everyday designated hitter. Alvarez will be eligible to return Sept. 26, which coincides with the start of Houston's final regular-season series. It's unclear if Alvarez will be healthy enough to play before the end of the regular season, but Espada said Friday in an appearance on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that Alvarez's ankle is "getting better."
