Zack Short News: Elects free agency

Short elected free agency Saturday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

The Astros designated Short for assignment at the beginning of August after he slashed .220/.291/.380 across 56 plate appearances in the big leagues. He finished the Triple-A season with a .705 OPS over 112 games, and he should be able to rely on his defensive versatility to secure at least a minor-league deal in the offseason.
