2018 Fantasy Outlook
After bouncing around the league as a second-rate reliever, Ramirez surprisingly found new life as a starter with the Angels before going down with a forearm injury in August. He made a dramatic change in his approach to opposing hitters, limiting his fastball usage to just over 50 percent, down from 73.2 percent in 2016. Instead Ramirez threw more breaking pitches, following the Matt Shoemaker blueprint. Ramirez still wasn't all that good, managing just a 6.4 K/9 and 4.71 FIP, but he kept the walks in check (3.0 BB/9) and was at least capable in his role as an innings eater for four and a half months of the season. Depending on what the Angels do this winter, Ramirez may return to the rotation in 2018. The AL West has several pitcher-friendly parks, but the lack of swing-and-miss stuff keeps Ramirez merely on the periphery of mixed-league consideration. Read Past Outlooks
