Bender was sidelined for the full 2023 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery in August 2022. He was back on the mound last July and progressed to live batting practice sessions a few months later, so he figures to be fully healthy for spring training. Bender handled closing duties for the Marlins as recently as 2022, so he could re-emerge in high leverage if health permits this season.
