Santos was acquired by Seattle to deepen its bullpen prior to the 2024 season, but a variety of injuries limited Santos to just over seven innings of work on the season. He missed two months with right bicep inflammation related to a nerve issue, and previously missed more than three months with a severe lat strain. This all came on the heels of his 2023 season ending early with right elbow inflammation. To be sure, strains and inflammations are the last thing you want to see from a hard-throwing reliever, especially one so reliant on a dastardly slider. The lost time and injury risk have likely led to Santos moving down from the primary setup man or potential closer to someone more likely to work in specific leverage situations against righty-heavy lineups unless something changes with his repertoire and his health. The Seattle bullpen is not exactly set it stone, so anything is possible if Santos's body doesn't let him down once again. Read Past Outlooks
