There might not have been a prospect to improve their standing more than Matos did last season. He was awful and often injured in the low minors in 2022, but the young outfielder earned a promotion to the big leagues in mid-June after getting off to a blistering .350/.415/.561 start between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento. Matos wasn't ever able to get going with the Giants, eventually leading to a couple stints back in the minors during the second half. The struggles weren't surprising given that he was just 21 and had very little upper-minors experience before getting called up. Matos' elite contact rates from the minors (12.2 percent strikeout rate) did carry over to the majors (13 percent) and the hope is that some over-the-fence power will come along as he matures.
