Past Fantasy Outlooks
2015
2011
After a strong year with Double-A Erie in 2013, Fields appeared to be nearing the Tigers' radar. All the young outfielder would need was a strong showing with Triple-A Toledo. Instead of taking that next step towards the majors, Fields struggled with the Mud Hens. In 274 at-bats in Toledo, he hit .219/.273/.343 with six homers, eight steals and 26 runs with a 15:76 BB:K ratio. A broken hand held him out of action for a prolonged stretch, and Fields struggled to find a grove at the plate after returning to action. He improved slightly at the plate during the Arizona Fall League, hitting .255 with one homer and three steals in 12 games, but Fields still needs some additional time at Triple-A. Despite the down season, the Tigers remain intrigued by Fields’ potential to crack the major league roster one day. The 24-year-old outfielder is considered a good five-tool athlete, and he flashed that skill set by hitting .284 with 10 homers and 24 steals in 2013. If he can stay healthy and post those type of numbers in Toledo while also improving his plate discipline, Fields will find himself back in Detroit’s long-term plans.
