Pena was suspended 100 games Monday for a third positive drug test, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
ANALYSIS
Pena started 13 rather uninspiring games at Double-A Portland this season, putting up a 6.41 ERA, 1.664 WHIP, and 47:25 K:BB in 60.1 innings. The positive test may be the final straw for the Red Sox's organization, but his pedigree (he was a sixth-round pick in 2011) may force them to give the 23-year-old southpaw another chance.

2013 Fantasy Outlook
Pena's two-pitch mix served him well at Low-A Greenville in 2012. The fastball at 88-91 mph is complemented nicely by a mid-70s curve that shows good break. He can throw a changeup and slider, but they aren't as effective. Against the inexperienced hitters in Low-A, Pena is fine. For him to stay on a path as a starter, he'll need to add to his mix. If not, he projects as a reliever in the upper minors. He'll start at High-A and go from there.
