RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Austin Schotts.
The 2012 third-round pick’s fast start in pro ball raised some eyebrows in the Tigers’ front office, but his prospect stock took a hit after a tough outing in his first full season in the minors. The 20-year-old started the season with Low-A West Michigan, but after posting a .192/.248/.249 line through 59 games, he was sent down to Connecticut of the New York-Penn League. Schotts didn’t improve much during his stint at short-season ball, hitting .229/.305/.303 with 22 steals and 71 strikeouts in 218 at-bats. While Schotts has the speed to make an impact in the steals department, he needs to vastly improve his plate discipline (34:146 BB:K in 411 at-bats) and start flashing a more productive bat in general. He’ll likely get another shot at Low-A this year, but Schotts shouldn’t land on fantasy radars unless he turns things around drastically and displays better production as he progresses through the Tigers’ minor league system.
