RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Dustin Peterson.
Acquired from the Padres as a lesser part of the Justin Upton deal toward the end of 2014, the 22-year-old Peterson had arguably his best season as a professional in 2016. Finally healthy following that disastrous Carolina Mudcats bus crash in 2015, Peterson broke loose in 132 games for Double-A Mississippi, posting career bests in home runs, RBI and walks, while striking out less than once per game. Peterson does not appear to have one standout tool, though, and his lack of plus power knocks down his future fantasy potential a bit, particularly from a corner outfield position. He will stay in the outfield, though, as he proved a rather poor fielder at third base. Peterson likely will start the season at Triple-A Gwinnett with an eye towards making his big league debut by the end of the 2017 campaign.
