Rest-of-Season Projections

Shirley picked up his first win of the season in Triple-A Fresno's 6-0 victory over Salt Lake on Wednesday. He threw five scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk while striking out four.
ANALYSIS
Last year with Triple-A Fresno, Shirley tallied a 3.07 ERA over 41 innings to go along with 37 strikeouts. He also holds a stellar 2.63 ERA over his 311 career innings in the minors. If the 27-year-old can prove once again at Fresno that his stat line is no fluke, he'll be a great candidate for a promotion to the big leagues before season's end.

2015 Fantasy Outlook
Shirley, a ninth-round pick by the Astros in 2010, emerged as one of the better pitching prospects in Houston's farm system last season. The 26-year-old southpaw breezed through Double-A, going 7-3 with a 1.88 ERA, 8.2 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 in 17 appearances (13 starts) for the Corpus Christi Hooks. His numbers were ordinary after a promotion to Triple-A Oklahoma City, however, and he finished the season as a member of their bullpen. Shirley is likely to open 2015 in Oklahoma City's starting rotation, and if he continues to show success and growth in the upper levels of the minors, it would bode well for his chances of getting a big league callup as early as this season.
