RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
It is certainly early in Dewees’ pro career, but the Cubs may have hit on another college bat near the top of the draft. Chicago nabbed the speedy center fielder with the 47th overall pick in the 2015 draft, and he immediately made an impact in 66 games with short-season Eugene. The 5-foot-11 University of North Florida product hit .266 with 19 steals (on 26 attempts) in 303 plate appearances in the Northwest League. Power is not a big part of the profile, but Dewees managed five home runs in his first taste of pro ball, so it is possible that he could hit 10-15 home runs annually in the big leagues. In order for him to hit atop an order at the highest level, he will need to improve upon the 4.6% walk rate he posted with the Emeralds, and that will determine whether he becomes a fantasy asset or a waiver wire fill-in.
