Becomes free agent
Triggs became a free agent Monday after refusing an outright assignment to the minors, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
ANALYSIS
Triggs threw just 8.1 innings for the Giants and Red Sox this season, posting a 7.56 ERA and a 7:6 K:BB. It wasn't a particularly compelling comeback after he lost the entirety of 2019 due to a hip injury. Injuries have limited him to just 34.3 innings per year since he debuted back in 2016.

Triggs was bitten by the injury bug for a second consecutive season; after a hip injury limited him to 12 starts in 2017, the 29-year-old made just nine appearances in 2018 before landing on the disabled list in May with a right forearm issue. He never returned to the active roster, as his rehab was shut down twice after a pair of setbacks -- the second of which resulted in Triggs undergoing thoracic outlet surgery in September. When healthy, Triggs struck out more than a batter per inning (9.4 K/9) for the first time in his career, though he struggled to a 5.23 ERA across 41.1 frames thanks to poor walk (3.9 BB/9) and home-run (1.5 HR/9) rates. While he's expected to be fully healthy for spring training, it's difficult to know what to expect from Triggs in 2019 given the seriousness of the procedure he underwent. Factor in Oakland's intention to use him out of the bullpen and Triggs can be left alone in most formats.
