Banished to minor-league camp
The Cubs reassigned Ramirez to their minor-league camp Saturday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Ramirez logged 17 big-league appearances across the past two seasons, but that prior experience wasn't enough to put the non-roster invitee in the mix for an Opening Day bullpen job. He'll likely open the 2019 campaign as a reliever at Triple-A Iowa.

2018 Fantasy Outlook
On the strength of an incredible scoreless streak, Ramirez shot from Double-A to the majors in 2017. The right-hander did not allow a run last season until Sept. 20 -- he had perfect 0.00 ERAs with both New Hampshire (18 appearances) and Buffalo (seven appearances) and did not allow a run in his first seven big-league outings. His scoreless streak eventually ended at 47.2 frames. Relying on his slider as his primary pitch, Ramirez struck out 24.1 percent of the batters he faced at the major-league level while walking 5.2 percent. He's a flyball pitcher (55.0 percent flyball rate last season) and that skew led to some home-run problems despite just a 27.5 percent hard-hit rate. Still, he seemed to make an impression on manager John Gibbons. Ramirez should break camp with a middle-innings role with an opportunity for advancement into the later innings by the end of the year.
