Past Fantasy Outlooks
2019
2018
Makita was posted by the Seibu Lions last offseason and chose to sign with Padres. Despite San Diego's reputation of fostering solid bullpen arms, things never clicked for Makita, resulting in him being designated at the end of the 2018 campaign. He spent most of the summer shuttling between San Diego and Triple-A El Paso. While with the Friars, Makita recorded a lofty 5.40 ERA, inflated after allowing seven homers in just 35 innings. It could have been worse, but Makita fanned 37 in that span, helping to minimize damage. The 34-year-old right-hander uses a submarine delivery, flipping his fastball to the plate at just 80 mph, mixing in a slider with the rare curve and changeup. Even if he lands in an MLB bullpen, Makita won't be a fantasy option as despite a decent number of punchouts, he's too much of a risk to the ratios.
