Daigle's roster filler at this point, a reliever without great stuff and just OK command. The D'backs have a slew of righthanded relievers with better projections.
Daigle resurrected his career by converting to relief at Double-A in 2005, but that WHIP is still too high for comfort. He didn't really impress in the Arizona Fall League, either, allowing 21 baserunners against just 9 K in 13 IP. He could compete for a major league bullpen role in the spring, but his chances are slim.
Daigle came from absolutely nowhere to win a spot in Arizona's rotation in spring training. He clearly wasn't ready, however, and was sent to Triple-A in June. He then spent the rest of the season proving he wasn't even ready for Triple-A, so he's a long shot to get back to the bigs this year. Still, he turns 24 in April, so there's time for him to turn it around. We almost got through a whole paragraph on Daigle without mentioning his wife, softball star/model Jennie Finch . . . aw, rats, we blew it.
Daigle, who spent the 2003 season at Double-A El Paso, was a 31st-round draft pick by the Diamondbacks out of high school in '99, and he'll turn just 23 in April. Daigle got married this offseason to softball star Jennie Finch, who beat out Anna Kournikova in ESPN.com's "Hottest Female Athlete" poll in 2003.
