Rest-of-Season Projections

The Yankees have signed Place, the Boston Globe reports.
ANALYSIS
Place was Boston's first-round pick in 2006 but hit just .234/.315/.390 in his Red Sox career, never advancing beyond Double-A. He'll get a second chance with the Yankees, but chances are slim that he ever sniffs the majors.

2010 Fantasy Outlook
Place, 21, is a former first-round draft pick that hasn't gone as planned back in 2006. He strikes out a ton and struggles with pitch recognition. He hit 19 homers in the hitter-friendly California League in 2008, then bought in to the swing alterations suggested by the organization. Either the changes in leagues, or the work on his swing, or both, seem to have sapped him of some the power he showed. He'll start 2010 at Double-A Portland and continue to work on a more fluid swing.
