Florimon produced an excellent .348/.378/.478 slash line in 49 plate appearances for the Phillies last season, but the performance was almost certainly a small-sample mirage. Florimon's success can be attributed to an absurd .533 BABIP, so there's little reason to believe the 30-year-old has figured something out and can perform any better than his career line of .209/.269/.308 going forward. He signed a minor-league deal to return to the Phillies this offseason and will fight to keep his spot at the end of the bench. He provides some real-world value in his positional versatility, having made appearances at six different positions last season, but his fantasy value is limited. Not many fantasy leagues give an owner reason to look at a light-hitting bench bat.

  2. Pedro Florimon 2017 Preseason Outlook
The slick-fielding Florimon has played in parts of six MLB seasons, all thanks to his defensive ability. Since compiling 446 plate appearances for Minnesota in 2013, the infielder has totaled 136 plate appearances, slashing just .114/.187/.179. Florimon will look for another big league opportunity with Philadelphia, but his fantasy value figures to be extremely limited once again.
  3. Pedro Florimon 2016 Preseason Outlook
Florimon is a fielding whiz whose offense crested in 2013 when he batted .221/.281/.330 in his largest sample size (446 plate appearances). Since then, the infielder has nine hits in 99 at-bats split between Minnesota and Pittsburgh. Surprisingly, Florimon “boasts” a .249 batting average in parts of nine minor league campaigns. He’ll look to catch on with a team as its 25th man, but fantasy owners can likely do better.
  4. Pedro Florimon 2015 Preseason Outlook
After barely hitting half his weight to begin the year in Minnesota, the Twins punted Florimon back to Triple-A where he continued to display his all-glove, no-bat skill set. The Nationals claimed him off waivers in September, only to have the Pirates pick him up in November as the clubs shuffled their 40-man rosters, and it's entirely possible his organizational travels may not end there before the 2015 season begins. Given that he's already 28 years old, his offensive ability (such as it is) may not improve, and while his 18 steals between Minnesota and Rochester isn't nothing, it's not exactly something either. He's got some real-world value as middle-infield depth and a potential defensive replacement/pinch-runner off the bench, but that's about it.
  5. Pedro Florimon 2014 Preseason Outlook
Florimon took over the starting shortstop job last season for the Twins and showed his glove can make him an asset and could overcome a weak bat. He showed some pop at the plate (nine home runs), but hit just .221 as he failed to make enough contact. He struck out in 25.8 percent of his plate appearances, resulting in a poor 72 percent contact rate. He also drew just 33 walks in 446 plate appearances. However, his fielding at shortstop was above average as he was sixth in UZR among AL shortstops, which offset his bat and gave him a 1.3 fWAR. He'll likely win the starting shortstop job again for Minnesota. His batting average will remain a major risk, but he has some power and will get playing time due to his defense.
  6. Pedro Florimon 2013 Preseason Outlook
Desperate to find a viable solution at shortstop, the Twins gave Florimon a six-week trial as Minnesota's starting shortstop hoping his defense could offset a weak bat. The results were mixed as advanced fielding metrics showed Florimon would have been a slightly above average fielder (1.4 UZR) but he hit just .219/.272/.307. Florimon has little power and while he draws walks, he strikes out too much. If he can improve at the plate or prove he is a Gold Glove-caliber fielder, he could win a starting shortstop job. However, the odds seem long that will happen since he will be 26 this season.
  7. Pedro Florimon 2012 Preseason Outlook
Florimon earned a cup of coffee after a decent year at Triple-A in 2011. He showed the ability to get on base consistently in Double-A, recording a .344 on-base percentage, but he hasn't shown enough contact or hit for enough power to back it up with much. Expect the 25-year-old to get a shot at Triple-A Rochester to open 2012 after the Twins claimed him off waivers in December.
  8. Pedro Florimon 2011 Preseason Outlook
Florimon has spent more than a full season at High-A Frederick, showing enough with the bat (.275/.345/.426) to where the Orioles need to be patient with him at Double-A. His limited exposure to advanced pitching hasn't gone well, but 158 at-bats can't be considered a large enough sample size to completely write him off. Unfortunately, the ceiling here appears to be that of a utility player should he ever hit enough to advance to the big league level.
