The Twins released Kohn (biceps) on Sunday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
ANALYSIS
With Kohn out through at least July with nerve irritation in his right biceps, the Twins elected to part ways with the pitcher rather than stashing him on the minor-league disabled list and overseeing his rehab. Once Kohn is healthy, it's possible that he could re-sign with the Twins or join another club on a minor-league pact. Injuries have undermined Kohn's career in recent seasons, as the 31-year-old has logged just 29.2 total innings between the majors and minors since 2014.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2014
2012
2011
Kohn began the 2013 season at Triple-A Salt Lake after a rough spring training, but was recalled by the Angels mid-April and managed to stick with the big club from that point on. In terms of basic run prevention, Kohn had a solid season, posting an ERA of 3.74 in 53 innings pitched, but his peripherals are a bit more troubling. Kohn posted a 4.8 BB/9 last season to go along with a 54.4% flyball rate, suggesting that his ERA may rise if more of those flyballs begin turning into home runs. Kohn has a live arm, however, and has shown an ability to strike hitters out (8.9 K/9 last season), which should put him in the running to stick with the Halos on Opening Day.
Kohn has struck out an impressive 268 batters in 183.1 minor league innings, all out of the bullpen. He threw the ball well for the Angels in 2010, but he did not pitch for the team after July last season after giving up nine walks and six home runs in his first 14 appearances. Although Kohn’s strikeout rate could make him a late-inning reliever down the road, he’ll have to do a better job limiting walks – and keeping the ball in the park – to maintain a regular role in the Angels bullpen.
Kohn took the express train to Anaheim, reaching the majors just two seasons after being taken in the 13th round. The key to Kohn's success? How about a 13.6 K/9IP in 135 minor league innings. Kohn still struggles with walks, so it would not be a total shock to see him open in Triple-A just to get some extra work in. Still, expect the Angels to find a spot in their bullpen for this hard-throwing right-hander at some point this season.
