2025 Fantasy Outlook
Megill emerged as a dependable late-inning reliever when healthy, pitching to a 2.72 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 50:14 K:BB across 46.1 innings. With Devin Williams absent for the first four months of the 2024 campaign, Megill got some well-deserved run as the Brewers' closer, ultimately leading the team with 21 saves and a 39.6 percent team save share. The 30-year-old right-hander ceded closing duties back to Williams upon his return, but remained a high-leverage fixture for Milwaukee. Megill mixed an upper-90's fastball with a knee-buckling knuckle curve that generated an MLB-best 55 percent whiff rate for that pitch type. While Megill established a new career-high with 48 appearances, he did miss some time on the injured list, once for a concussion plus another stint due to a back injury. With the Brewers trading Williams to the Yankees, Megill stands out as the current favorite to close for Milwaukee, but his durability is a concern. Read Past Outlooks

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2020
After a poor spring, the Twins optioned Megill to Triple-A St. Paul to begin the season. Further struggles prompted the club to designate the reliever in late April. The Brewers acquired Megill from the Twins and sent him to Triple-A Nashville. Megill spent the rest of the season alternating between the minor and majors. While with the Brewers, Megill posted a 3.63 ERA over 34.2 innings, but a bloated .407 BABIP fueled an inflated 1.36 WHIP. Megill fanned 35.1 percent of batters, and yielded just two homers, so the excess traffic didn't hurt him too much. Megill throws a 99-mph four-seam fastball 72 percent of the time, mixing in the curve. Curiously, Megill's career BABIP is .393. Megill has the stuff to be late-inning reliever, but until he figures out to calm down his high hit rate, he'll likely work in lower leverage scenarios.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Chance to close in 2025?
The Brewers could explore the possibility of trading closer Devin Williams during the offseason, per Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and Megill would likely be the leading candidate to close in 2025 should a deal be completed.
Analysis
Megill served as Milwaukee's closer during the first half of 2024 while Williams was sidelined and tallied 21 saves with a 2.72 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 50:14 K:BB in 48 regular-season appearances. The Brewers haven't been shy in the past about trading away key pitchers nearing the end of their contract -- see Corbin Burnes and Josh Hader -- and Williams would certainly bring a strong trade return as one of the top closers in baseball. Megill looked to be on the journeyman path when he was acquired by the Brewers in early 2023, but he's turned into a reliable high-leverage arm with a 3.11 ERA in 79 appearances with Milwaukee.
