Optioned to Triple-A
PSeattle Mariners  AAA
April 3, 2019
Rumbelow was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Greg Johns of reports.
Rumbelow has one save in his three appearances but has also allowed four runs in just 1.1 innings of work. As a mediocre reliever with options, he'll likely bounce between Seattle and Tacoma for much of the season. The move clears room on the 25-man roster for Connor Sadzeck, who was acquired in a trade with Texas on Monday.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
Rumbelow's season was a brief one. After being sent to Triple-A toward the end of spring training, he required Tommy John surgery after just one outing. While the lost year is obviously not ideal, the righty is still just 25 years old, so if he's able to come back from the surgery, he'll still have plenty of time to establish himself within the organization. Rumbelow made his big league debut in 2015, striking out 15 in 15.2 innings with a mid-90s fastball, so when healthy he will likely get another look in the major league bullpen somewhere down the line. Given the typical Tommy John surgery timetable, Rumbelow may be out until around the All-Star break, and given all of the missed time the club will likely send him back to the minors, at least at first, to get back in the swing of things.
Rumbelow made his big league debut in 2015, and though he was often sent back and forth between the majors and minors, he ended up sticking around long enough to make 17 appearances with the Yankees. The 24-year-old had looked strong at the lower levels of the minors and posted solid strikeout rates, but 2015 was shaping up to be one of his worst seasons, as he worked to a 4.27 ERA at Triple-A and saw his K/9 fall nearly three strikeouts from the year before to 9.7. He was respectable against big league hitting, though was never a particularly highly touted prospect and doesn’t appear set for a big role change this season. Look for Rumbelow to split time once again between Triple-A and the majors, serving primarily in lower-leverage situations.
