Brad Wieck
28-Year-Old PitcherRP
2019 Fantasy Outlook
A velocity spike in 2017 allowed Wieck to finally clear the last hurdle and make his major-league debut as a 26-year-old last year. He threw seven innings of relief for the Padres, allowing just one run while striking out 10 batters. The lefty's numbers with Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso were similarly impressive, as he posted a 2.53 ERA in 46.1 innings, striking out 36.1% of batters while walking 8.8%. With a fastball that can touch 99 mph and a plus curveball, Wieck would seem to have plenty of potential as a high-leverage reliever. It would be a surprise to see him push toward the closer conversation in 2019, but he could have some fringe deep-league value regardless as his average appearance last season lasted 1.4 innings, suggesting he'll be more than just a LOOGY. Picks up win in relief
PChicago Cubs
September 27, 2019
Wieck (2-2) struck out the only batter he faced to earn the win against the Cardinals on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Wieck needed only six pitches to send Jose Martinez back to the dugout. He then became the pitcher of record when the Cubs exploded for a seven-run seventh inning. The southpaw has posted a 5.19 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 34.2 innings between the Padres and Cubs this year, but he's only allowed two runs in 13 appearances since joining the Cubs.
