2021 Fantasy Outlook
Newsome deserves a lot of credit for clawing his way to the majors as a 26th-round pick in 2015. He made his first big-league appearance Aug. 20 and his first big-league start Aug. 27, one of four starts down the stretch for Seattle, although he never went more than 4.1 innings in a start. Newsome is a fastball-curveball-changeup pitcher with middling velocity. The right-hander has not shown a huge strikeout punch on the farm, averaging under a strikeout per inning in almost 500 minor-league frames. Teams are going to need arms in 2021 to spread the workload around and (in theory) mitigate injury risk, and Newsome will get more chances to toe the rubber at the major-league level. He has a lot more to prove before he can be entrusted with an active lineup spot in mixed leagues. Read Past Outlooks
