2021 Fantasy Outlook
A secondary piece in the Diamondbacks' return for Paul Goldschmidt, Young was up-and-down with Arizona in 2020, coming to the plate 34 times across 12 games before a broken hamate bone ended his season. It's too small of a sample to have any major takeaways, but it was good to see Young was taking some walks (14.7 BB%), something he will need to do at least a little bit of as the strikeout rate may hover around 25-30% against top-level pitching. Young has power, but it is not truly a plus tool, and with marginal speed, his ceiling looks to be capped as a utility player. He played second base (four games), third base (three games) and left field (once) in his debut. Read Past Outlooks

Cranks grand slam in first start
Young went 1-for-2 with a grand slam in the 11-6 win Thursday against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Young was called up to replace Christian Walker (oblique) on the active roster. The 26-year-old took full advantage of his start by hitting a grand slam in the second inning off Patrick Corbin. He'll operate as a utility player, getting spot starts when others need a routine day off.

2020 Fantasy Outlook
Part of the haul from the Cardinals in the Paul Goldschmidt trade, Young is knocking on the door in the desert with a chance to break camp with the Diamondbacks. The club added Young to the 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 draft -- a good sign Arizona has plans for him. Young was advanced to Triple-A Reno halfway through the season where he slashed an impressive .280/.373/.611, albeit in the high offense landscape of the Pacific Coast League. Still, Young's ability to play second, third and shortstop should earn him a long look in the Cactus League. The righty-swinging infielder lacks plate patience but makes good contact. He has limited speed, so he'll need to tap into his power to be a fantasy asset. Monitor Young in the spring. If he impresses early, he's an intriguing end-game target in NL-only, adding flexibility to a fantasy roster, especially those with five game eligibility requirements.
