2025 Fantasy Outlook
It feels like Kochanowicz arrived in the major leagues about 40 years too late. Back in the 80s, a big, sturdy right-hander with good control, heavy ground ball tendencies and virtually zero swing and miss ability probably would have had a long career. In the modern game, his place is less certain, even after he managed to post a solid 3.99 ERA in 11 starts for the Angels in 2024 in spite of a microscopic 9.4 percent strikeout rate. Kochanowicz will be part of the rotation competition for the Angels in 2025 and might very well begin the season in the big leagues, but his profile gives him a very narrow path to fantasy viability. The Angels optioned Kochanowicz to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.
Analysis
Kochanowicz was lit up during his latest outing Thursday, surrendering eight runs to the Rangers in just 2.2 innings. He'll now look to get back on track in the minors, and the Angels will bring up Jake Eder to provide some additional bullpen depth heading into the All-Star break.

Secure in rotation?
PLos Angeles Angels  AAA
June 12, 2025
Manager Ron Washington said Sunday that there's been no conversations about removing Kochanowicz from the starting rotation, reports Sam Blum of The Athletic.
Analysis
That hardly means the right-hander's rotation spot is secure, but the Angels aren't entertaining a role change yet, at least publicly. Kochanowicz made his MLB debut last season and had a 3.99 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB across 65.1 innings, but he's struggled to a 5.61 ERA and 1.63 WHIP through 13 starts in 2025. He's given up exactly four runs in each of his past four outings, and Kochanowicz may need to turn the corner soon in order to stick in the rotation.
