2025 Fantasy Outlook
Crochet's career trajectory has been anything but traditional as he made his MLB debut for the White Sox in 2020 without first playing in the minors, and he transitioned to the starting rotation in 2024 without having previously made a professional start. The left-hander was dominant despite being on the worst team in the history of MLB, and he finished the campaign with a 3.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 209:33 K:BB over 146 innings. Chicago elected not to trade him at the summer deadline and heavily monitored his workload across the final three months of the season, during which he never pitched more than four innings. He also labored in those final 14 starts with a 4.84 ERA, but those struggles aren't a major surprise given it was his first season as a professional starter. The Red Sox acquired Crochet for a package of prospects this winter, so he'll be pitching his home games in one of the most hitter-friendly parks in the game but should also get much better run support and defense than the White Sox gave him a year ago. Earns eighth win
Crochet (8-4) earned the win after throwing six innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out nine, during Monday's 13-6 win over the Reds.
Analysis
From a run prevention standpoint, Crochet had one of his worst outings of the season, tying a season high with five runs allowed. However, he was given a 7-0 lead before he threw his first pitch, so it proved not to matter. Even if some runs got on the board, the 26-year-old continued to befuddle batters as he struck out nine Reds to make it seven starts in a row with seven or more strikeouts. The left-hander continues to be one of the best in the game retiring batters via strikeout as he's leading all of MLB with 144 on the season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
2022
2021
Crochet missed all of 2022 following Tommy John surgery and was limited to just 25 apperances between the majors and minors last season due to a shoulder injury. When healthy, the lefty walked more batters (13) at the big league level last year than he struck out (12), but the sample was limited to only 12.2 innings. He ended the season healthy, but the Crochet's persistent injury woes have made it difficult for the White Sox to settle on his role. Recent reports indicate his workload will be monitored during spring training and Chicago will determine whether to stretch him out to start in 2024, or use him in relief. Fantasy managers have been willing to gamble on Crochet's upside for a few years now, but he has yet to realize his potential. If health prevails in 2024, Crochet could re-emerge on fantasy radars, but expect a high WHIP no matter what role he fills.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Extension talks will be tabled
The Red Sox and Crochet are expected to table contract extension talks after failing to reach an agreement prior to Opening Day, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis
The two sides began negotiating in early January and had steady conversations since then, but there was a "sizable gap" between the two sides that didn't close, per Cotillo. Crochet does not want to negotiate during the regular season, and chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said the club will respect the pitcher's wishes. The left-hander is making $3.8 million in 2025 and will remain under team control in 2026.
