This is the definition of a "Quadruple-A" profile. Robinson has appeared in the majors in each of the last seven years, but he has never logged even 200 plate appearances in a single MLB season. In his 436 career games at the big-league level, Robinson has shown an ability make consistent contact (14.3 percent strikeout rate) and draw a walk (8.7 percent), but there is a total absence of power and speed. Further, he doesn't hit enough line drives (17.6 percent for career) to maintain anything close to a league-average BABIP (.259), so his batting average has a hard cap. Chances are, Robinson will spend another year riding the shuttle between the minors and majors, providing minimal production when he does get opportunities. Keep moving.

  2. Shane Robinson 2017 Preseason Outlook
Robinson hasn't ever overwhelmed anyone at the plate, and 2016 was no different. He mustered just a .492 OPS and 10 RBI in 98 at-bats over the course of the season. He continues to post strong numbers in the walk and strikeout departments while maintaining an excellent 83 percent contact rate, but the hits simply don't fall for him. Despite these struggles at the plate, the outfielder managed to carve out a semi-regular role during the regular season thanks to a plethora of injuries to the Angels' outfield. Robinson re-upped with the Halos on a minor league deal, and when an opportunity arises, he will likely continue to fill a role as a reserve outfielder thanks to his defensive versatility. Unfortunately, his value in real life probably won't translate to the fantasy ranks, especially given the fact that he's on the wrong side of 30.
  3. Shane Robinson 2016 Preseason Outlook
Robinson continues to find steady work as a reserve outfielder due to his versatility and decent glove instead of an underwhelming bat. He had just a .621 OPS last season and offers almost no power or stolen bases for fantasy purposes. He'll try to win a reserve role with the Indians this spring.
  4. Shane Robinson 2015 Preseason Outlook
Robinson had a limited role with the Cardinals in 2014, slashing .150/.227/.200 over 66 plate appearances. He'll attempt to earn an Opening Day roster spot as a reserve outfielder with the Twins in the upcoming season, but he may spend most of the season at Triple-A. Robinson is never going to be a regular outfielder but he does offer some decent speed and defensive ability off the bench and seems to be the kind of player a lot of managers like having on their roster given his intangibles.
  5. Shane Robinson 2014 Preseason Outlook
Robinson was the Cardinals' fifth outfielder for the second straight season in 2013 and played well in just 144 at-bats, posting a .345 OBP and walking more than he struck out (23:17 BB:K). The 29-year-old displayed improved baserunning tendencies, stealing five bases in six attempts. Robinson will likely return to the same role for the Cardinals in 2014 as a fifth outfielder. He'll provide real value to the Cardinals, but will have little to no impact in most fantasy leagues given the sporadic nature of his playing time.
  6. Shane Robinson 2013 Preseason Outlook
Other than a three-week stint with Triple-A Memphis, Robinson spent the entire season with the Cardinals. Unfortunately, he only started 29 games (mostly in center), and was used primarily as a late-inning defensive replacement. Robinson doesn't offer much fantasy value in his limited role since he doesn't steal bases and has little power.
  7. Shane Robinson 2012 Preseason Outlook
Although the scrappy Robinson made a little noise in camp in 2010, he hasn't done much to show the St. Louis brass that he deserves anything more than a spot at the end of the bench. He had just that during a late-season cup of coffee, but he didn't get a single hit in seven at-bats. A fractured orbital bone suffered in an outfield collision shortened a promising year in Triple-A Memphis, but he was also 26 and playing in Memphis for the fourth season in a row.
  8. Shane Robinson 2010 Preseason Outlook
Robinson was an afterthought heading into spring training last year, but he seemed to come up with one key hit after another. Manager Tony La Russa remembered him and gave him a brief cup of coffee in May, but there's not much on Robinson's resume to indicate that he can stick in the majors. He has some speed, and he's tough to strike out, but he also has no power and a low batting average.
