Aaron Bates

Bates was an emergency midseason callup for Boston and started a few games at first base when Kevin Youkilis replaced an injured Mike Lowell (hip) at third base. He had power potential moving up through the lower stages of the system, but that fell off at higher levels. He adjusted his mechanics, resulting in improved numbers at Double-A, but the power remains in the "potential" zone. He's still on the team's 40-man roster, but we don't see him on the major league roster when the season starts.
