2017 Fantasy Outlook
West began 2016 with Double-A Corpus Christi as the team's closer, posting a 3.47 ERA and 15 saves before getting called up to Triple-A Fresno. He fared slightly worse with Fresno, his ERA rising to 4.05, although he maintained a nice 4.3 K/BB. A former starting pitcher turned reliever, command has been a calling card for West throughout his minor league career, including a 1.6 BB/9. His career 7.9 K/9 isn't bad, but he doesn't project as a high-strikeout reliever, either. With unspectacular stuff, West isn't regarded as one of the Astros' better pitching prospects. The Houston bullpen looks to be fairly crowded, so whether or not he begins in the year in Double-A or Triple-A, West is unlikely to crack the majors in 2017. Since he's not a top prospect, West may need to show at least a full year of solid numbers at Triple-A before earning a major league chance. As a result, he can be avoided in all but the deepest of dynasty leagues.
