Andre Jackson

For the second straight season, Jackson did well in a brief taste of big-league action, allowing just two runs and nine hits over 9.2 innings while picking up a hold and a save. He walked too many hitters (four) over the small sample but also struck out nearly a batter per frame. Jackson's results in the majors were more promising than the 5.00 ERA and 1.72 WHIP he recorded over 75.2 innings with Triple-A Oklahoma City. The hitter-friendly environment of the Pacific Coast League is always a consideration when a pitcher struggles at that level, but it doesn't excuse Jackson's ugly 17.2% walk rate. Control and command have consistently been his weak points, which may be partly attributable to the fact that he spent more time as a position player than as a pitcher in college. Jackson's arsenal is good enough to succeed in the majors -- he can touch the upper-90s with his fastball and has plenty of fade on his changeup, which he threw over half the time while up with the Dodgers last season -- but his ability to harness his command will be key in determining whether he can start in the majors.
