ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old righty has failed to ever reach the big leagues, and has languished at Triple-A since 2011. He is unlikely to make an impact in professional baseball anytime soon.

Carter struggled in his first cup of coffee at Triple-A Charlotte. In fact, his 7.23 ERA and .314 BAA in 47.1 innings earned him a demotion back to Double-A Birmingham. He struck out more than a batter per inning between the two levels, but his high-90s fastball remains too hittable for him to profile as more than a middle reliever in the majors. He will likely get the chance to start 2012 at Charlotte once again, and he could be in the big league bullpen during the season if he does not flop again.

The White Sox added Carter the 40-man roster after a strong showing in Arizona Fall League in which he did not walk a batter in 10 innings. He was converted to a relief role in 2010, and he responded by striking out 58 in 57.1 innings and saving 22 games. The White Sox's bullpen could be his home before the end of 2011.

Carter threw a career-high 154.2 innings in the 2009 season, spending the whole year with High-A Winston-Salem. His K:BB and K/9IP (2.77 and 6.9) were only slightly better than the previous year’s (2.61 and 6.7), but his 21 home runs allowed were up from 2008. He should start 2010 at Double-A and is way off from pitching in Chicago.
