Anthony Fernandez

Fernandez made five starts last season for Triple-A Tacoma before being shut down for Tommy John surgery. The 24-year-old left-hander likely will need a full year to recover and figures to be sidelined until at least June. Fernandez likely will return to Tacoma, but it wouldn't be surprising if he saw time in Seattle as well. The Mariners are thin in starting pitching depth beyond the top-five. Once a healthy Fernandez gets up to speed, the team could tab him for a spot start or more should the need arise. The only other starting pitcher on the 40-man is the uncompelling Erasmo Ramirez.
