Rest-of-Season Projections
Cut loose by Baltimore
The Orioles released Schultz on Saturday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Schultz was included among the Orioles' first few wave of cuts earlier this month after posting a 16.20 ERA during Grapefruit League action. The Orioles apparently didn't envision Schultz having any sort of meaningful role in the high minors this season, so he'll get the chance to explore opportunities elsewhere.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
There were high hopes for Schultz following an impressive 2015 campaign in which he posted a 3.56 ERA with 31 strikeouts over 43 innings (31 games). However, offseason hip surgery delayed his 2016 debut until late June, and Schultz never found solid footing with the big league team at any point during the year. The right-hander bounced between Triple-A Buffalo and Toronto over the final few months of the season, ultimately managing an ugly 5.51 ERA (4.91 FIP) over 16 appearances at the MLB level. He fared much better in 26 games with Buffalo, owning a 3.74 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 33.2 innings. With the Jays' bullpen needing major retooling before 2017, Schultz is expected to be in the mix for a full-time gig next season. The 31-year-old's career 6.15 K/9 is less than impressive, but Schultz's command (1.65 BB/9 in 2016) and extreme groundball rate (2.73 GB/FB in 2016) makes him a perfect mid-relief option.
