Cut loose by Indians
Frias was released by the Indians on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Frias spent all of the 2017 season with Triple-A Columbus, posting a brutal 8.05 ERA and 21:22 K:BB across 38 innings of work. He'll look to catch on elsewhere as organizational pitching depth.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
Injuries forced Frias into 13 starts (and four relief outings) for the Dodgers last year, and the 26-year-old posted a 4.06 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 77.2 generally unimpressive innings. Frias isn't without tools, considering his 94.6 mph average fastball, but he often gets far too much of the plate with that offering, and his other pitches, including a slider and changeup, lag behind the fastball. Frias posted just a 5.0 K/9 in 2015 after an 8.1 mark in 32.1 innings the year prior, so hitters weren't doing a lot of swinging and missing against his mid-90s heat. He did generate a decent 2.8 GB/FB, but that sort of K/9 leaves him vulnerable. Frias still has the ability to carve out a major league career, but he's probably better suited to the bullpen at this point. That said, injuries ravaged the Dodgers' rotation in spring training, so Frias is competing with Zach Lee to open the year as the Dodgers' fifth starter. Even if he wins out, the stay in the rotation could be brief as several starters are due back in late-April and mid-May.
