Chris Murphy

Murphy improved his prospect outlook during the first half of 2022 with a 2.70 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 76.2 innings for Double-A Portland, which earned him a promotion to Triple-A Worcester. He struggled a bit at the highest level of the minors with a 5.62 ERA and 58:41 K:BB in 15 starts, but the Red Sox still added him to the 40-man roster in November to protect him from being selected during the Rule 5 draft. Murphy is likely to open 2023 back at Worcester, but a decent showing should be enough to warrant a look in the majors, especially since Boston's rotation is clouded by injury-prone veterans and unproven arms.
