Rest-of-Season Projections

Yankee prospect David Walling, who left the Triple-A Columbus Clippers on June 4, is receiving counseling in Oklahoma City. There is no timetable for his return to the organization.
Analysis
Rather than having control problems (he walked 11 and K'd 46 at Columbus this year), Walling suffers an unusual compulsion to throw the ball to first base when there is a runner on.

2003 Fantasy Outlook
The Yankees' 1999 first-round draft pick, Walling left the Triple-A Columbus ball club last June to receive counseling for a psychological problem. Although he has very good control (46/11 K/BB ratio), Walling suffers an unusual compulsion to throw the ball to first base when there is a runner on base. Walling was considered one of the better pitching prospects in the Yankees' organization before his troubles caused him to miss most of the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
More Fantasy News

After a 2001 season lost to off-field issues, this Yankees' 1999 first-rounder is off to a fine start at Triple-A Columbus. He allowed just one earned run in 7 1/3 innings in a 2-0 loss to Richmond Wednesday night, and is now a hard-luck 0-2 with a 1.69 ERA. Walling hasn't walked a batter in his first 21 1/3 innings, and has whiffed 14.
