2026 Fantasy Outlook
Martin won 7 of his 25 starts with a 4.10 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP which raises more questions than answers for a successful 2026. Martin survived despite a 9.3% K-BB% and a 1.3 HR/9 rate thanks to a fortunate .274 BABIP because a lot of his groundballs found gloves before the could get to the outfield. Martin threw six different pitch types in 2025 preferring the slider to righties and curve to lefties. His changeup limited hitters to a .230 batting average despite just a 18.2% Whiff rate and a .322 xBA. His cutter may have been his best performing pitch even though 9 of his 20 homers came off the pitch. Martin had 13 outings where he allowed two or fewer earned runs in starts over 5 innings with just 6 starts allowing 4 or more earned runs. He almost exactly doubled his workload from 2024 after recovering from a 2023 Tommy John Surgery. This is a back end starter for AL-Only leagues for end-game purposes as there is much more downside than upside in this skill profile. Read Past Outlooks
Shelled in loss against Boston
Martin (9-6) took the loss Tuesday against the Red Sox, allowing nine runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out one over five innings.
Analysis
After surrendering four first-inning runs in his previous outing against the Yankees, Martin endured another disastrous opening frame Tuesday. He hit a batter and gave up six hits, including back-to-back home runs by Caleb Durbin and Jarren Duran, with Durbin's blast clearing the bases for a grand slam as Boston scored six runs. Martin later allowed his third homer of the night -- a solo shot by Wilyer Abreu in the fifth -- before exiting in the sixth and watching two inherited runners come around to score. The nine runs matched his career high he previously recorded June 16. Martin has now gone nine straight starts without a victory after opening the season 9-2. He'll carry a 4.13 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 107:37 K:BB across 122 innings into his next scheduled start Sunday against Cleveland.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
Martin had a successful recovery from his 2023 Tommy John surgery and made 10 starts for the White Sox once returning to the major league roster at the end of July 2024. Martin, unsurprisingly, did not earn a win in any of his starts, but his 4.37 ERA was the third best of the starting pitchers on the team. His 2024 velocity was nearly all the way back to where it was in 2022, but he also has added a cutter that he did not use when we last saw him in the majors. Martin's cutter and slider are his best pitches, but his four-seamer had a noticeable difference in its batting average (.389) compared to its expected batting average (.275). Martin will be two full years removed from his surgery in early May of 2025, but he will still be pitching for the worst team in baseball, which will once again cut into his ability to get wins. He has enough stuff to get strikeouts, and his pre-injury numbers in the minors show there is some potential upside here. However, the surrounding cast, particularly the bullpen, has to get better for Martin to be anything more than an AL-Only deep-league streamer.

Sizable snub for ASG
Martin was one of the biggest snubs for the 2026 All-Star Game, according to David Schoenfield of ESPN.com.
Analysis
Martin could eventually make his way into the AL All-Star roster since several pitchers might not pitch in the game due to eligibility rules, but the fact that he was snubbed from the original roster doesn't make much sense. Martin has been one of the most important players for a surging White Sox team in 2026, going 9-3 with a 3.08 ERA and 96 strikeouts across 96 innings in 2026.
