Strange-Gordon appeared to be nearing the end of the road last season. After amassing 330 stolen bases over his career, including at least 22 in six straight seasons, the veteran second baseman managed only three in 33 games for the Mariners in 2020 while posting a career-worst .481 OPS, and he couldn't crack a big-league roster at all in 2021, instead bouncing through four different organizations on minor-league deals that went nowhere. The 33-year-old wasn't ready to hang up his cleats though, and Strange-Gordon gave it another try with the Nationals this spring. He took full advantage of his opportunity, batting .469 over 12 games and winning a big-league roster spot when Carter Kieboom landed on the IL and Washington decided Luis Garcia needed more development time in the minors. Strange-Gordon has little fantasy upside on paper, but the Nats have made a habit of turning seemingly washed-up infielders into productive utility players, a list that includes Howie Kendrick, Josh Harrison and Alcides Escobar, and he could well be their next successful reclamation project.
