2025 Fantasy Outlook
It feels like Kochanowicz arrived in the major leagues about 40 years too late. Back in the 80s, a big, sturdy right-hander with good control, heavy ground ball tendencies and virtually zero swing and miss ability probably would have had a long career. In the modern game, his place is less certain, even after he managed to post a solid 3.99 ERA in 11 starts for the Angels in 2024 in spite of a microscopic 9.4 percent strikeout rate. Kochanowicz will be part of the rotation competition for the Angels in 2025 and might very well begin the season in the big leagues, but his profile gives him a very narrow path to fantasy viability. Stuck with loss in quality start
Kochanowicz (1-4) took the loss Tuesday, giving up three runs on four hits and four walks over six inning as the Angels were downed 5-3 by the Mariners. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old right-hander set a new season high in Ks while delivering his second straight quality start and third in six trips to the mound. Kochanowicz also got taken deep again, however -- a three-run shot by Jorge Polanco in the second inning -- and he's served up six homers in 32.1 innings to fuel his rough 5.29 ERA. Kochanowicz will look for a better result in his next outing, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Tigers.
