Rest-of-Season Projections
Jolted by Jays
Kochanowicz (2-2) took the loss Saturday, coughing up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and two walks over four-plus innings as the Angels were routed 14-1 by the Blue Jays. He failed to strike out a batter.
Analysis
The right-hander's pitch-to-contact ways kept the Halos in the game for four frames, but the wheels came off for Kochanowicz in the fifth as the first six Toronto batters reached base before he got the hook after 84 pitches (49 strikes). It was his worst outing of the season, and Kochanowicz has now gone five straight starts without getting into the win column while posting a 4.39 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 18:12 K:BB in 28.2 innings over that stretch. He'll try to bounce back in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Dodgers.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
It feels like Kochanowicz arrived in the major leagues about 40 years too late. Back in the 80s, a big, sturdy right-hander with good control, heavy ground ball tendencies and virtually zero swing and miss ability probably would have had a long career. In the modern game, his place is less certain, even after he managed to post a solid 3.99 ERA in 11 starts for the Angels in 2024 in spite of a microscopic 9.4 percent strikeout rate. Kochanowicz will be part of the rotation competition for the Angels in 2025 and might very well begin the season in the big leagues, but his profile gives him a very narrow path to fantasy viability.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Secure in rotation?
Manager Ron Washington said Sunday that there's been no conversations about removing Kochanowicz from the starting rotation, reports Sam Blum of The Athletic.
Analysis
That hardly means the right-hander's rotation spot is secure, but the Angels aren't entertaining a role change yet, at least publicly. Kochanowicz made his MLB debut last season and had a 3.99 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB across 65.1 innings, but he's struggled to a 5.61 ERA and 1.63 WHIP through 13 starts in 2025. He's given up exactly four runs in each of his past four outings, and Kochanowicz may need to turn the corner soon in order to stick in the rotation.
