Joins Arizona on minor league deal
Goebbert signed a minor league contract with the Diamondbacks on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
ANALYSIS
Goebbert played in 51 games with the Padres in 2014 but has been stuck down at the Triple-A level the past two seasons. While he posted an .844 OPS with Triple-A El Paso in 2015, his mark fell to .661 last season with the move from the Pacific Coast League to the International League. At 29, Goebbert appears likely to continue on as organizational filler.

2015 Fantasy Outlook
A 13th-round pick out of Northwestern in 2009, Goebbert began the 2014 campaign by slashing .257/.371/.505 with six homers and 25 RBI in 31 games (132 PA) with Triple-A Sacramento. The A's shipped Goebbert to the Padres in mid-May, and he would split the remainder of the year between Triple-A El Paso (48 games) and San Diego (51 games). While his success at the Triple-A level continued (.322/.435/.561), Goebbert did little with his major-league opportunities, managing just a .630 OPS, one homer and 12:32 BB:K in 115 plate appearances. It made his numbers from the Pacific Coast League seems like a mirage, but it's too early to completely close the book on the 27-year-old. He packs some pop from the left side of the plate, something the Padres are lacking on the major league roster, and it's not like Yonder Alonso is a daunting obstacle. With Yasmani Grandal traded to Los Angeles, Goebbert could make a run at the regular first-base job in the spring. However, even if that does materialize, he would still only be a late-draft/auction flier in NL-only leagues.
