23-Year-Old PitcherSP
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Jones went from potential closer-of-the-future in Pittsburgh to a good enough strike thrower and craftsman to project as a high-strikeout starter. His 70-grade four-seamer has excellent ride and sits at 96 mph while touching 100 mph. The 6-foot-1 righty also throws a plus 89-mph slider that touches 94 mph and adequate third and fourth pitches in his curveball and changeup. His 8.9 percent walk rate at Double-A was excellent given his age (21) and electric arsenal. The 9.7 percent walk rate he posted at Triple-A may seem a bit high, but that mark is actually pretty encouraging given his age and the automated balls and strikes system at the top level of the minors. Jones threw 126.1 total innings and could surpass 150 innings in his age-22 season. He is on track to join the big-league rotation sometime this season. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Jones' season was already over after he made his final start of the season Friday, so the Pirates will simply send him to their complex in Florida to finish the season, opening up a roster spot for Mike Burrows in the process. The 23-year-old Jones will finish his rookie campaign with a 4.14 ERA and 1.19 WHIP alongside a 132:39 K:BB across 22 starts.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Debut possible in 2024
PPittsburgh Pirates  R
October 15, 2023
Jones could make his MLB debut for Pittsburgh in 2024, per Justice delos Santos of MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old is one of Pittsburgh's top prospects and moved up to Triple-A Indianapolis in July, so a possible debut next year wouldn't be surprising. Jones posted a 2.23 ERA in 10 starts at Double-A before jumping to Triple-A, though he struggled after the promotion with a 4.72 ERA in 82 frames. However, the right-hander's 10.9 K/9 at the highest level of the minors is encouraging, and a strong start to 2024 could have him up in the majors before long.
